F.G. surveyed the thirty-something man sitting in front of her. His face was red from climbing the hundred and fifty spiral steps to the turret office of the oldest block in London.  His clothing, a little dishevelled from his exertions, had a definite sporty feel to it.  Now a man of money she thought; probably working in the media. She sat back in her chair rocking to and fro studying the visitor

Set in present day London this dark fantasy charts the transition of power in one of the world’s oldest and most demanding roles. This change happens rarely and when it does it creates a vortex of emotion, violence and intrigue. Although there can be only one incumbent, many would love to be that person while few have the right to be considered.

 

A misguided call for help triggers the beginning of a process which eventually throws two young women against each other in a battle for professional prowess.

 

On the way, hatred, murder, benevolence, love, jealousy, sexual rivalry and the downright unusual conspire to test the candidates for this ancient office.
